Archive Lantern Privacy Policy

Archive Lantern is an offline collection-care planning and record-organising application published by MPL HOLDINGS LIMITED. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app can store on your device, what the publisher does not collect, and the choices available to you. Archive Lantern is designed so its main features work without an account or network connection.

Archive Lantern is published by MPL HOLDINGS LIMITED, a private company registered in Jersey under company number 163313. The registered office is 1 IFC, St. Helier, Jersey JE2 3BX. The app name Archive Lantern is a consumer product name and does not represent a regulator, museum, archive, conservation institute, rights authority, insurer, or emergency service.

This Policy applies to the Archive Lantern Android application and the publisher's Archive Lantern support and privacy pages. It does not apply to a device manufacturer, app store, browser, external website, or other service that you may choose to use separately. Those parties operate under their own terms and privacy notices.

The app's object passports, condition sweeps, shelf positions, move cards, review entries, preferences, and saved study-card choices are processed locally on your device. Archive Lantern does not require registration, sign-in, cloud synchronisation, or a publisher-operated account. The Android app does not request Internet permission and does not send these local records to MPL HOLDINGS LIMITED.

You may enter working identifiers, object titles, material categories, condition observations, storage locations, movement details, review dates, responsible-person names, source notes, access flags, and other free-text notes. This information is optional and is used only to provide the local features you request. You decide what to enter and are responsible for avoiding unnecessary personal, confidential, security-sensitive, culturally sensitive, or legally restricted information.

MPL HOLDINGS LIMITED does not receive personal information, collection records, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, contacts, photographs, files, precise or approximate location, browsing history, app activity, diagnostics, financial information, health information, messages, audio, or biometric data through the Android app. The app contains no advertising, analytics, tracking pixels, social login, cloud database, telemetry SDK, or behavioural profiling.

Archive Lantern does not request camera, microphone, contacts, broad storage, photos, location, notification, calendar, phone, SMS, Bluetooth, nearby-device, accessibility, or other dangerous Android permissions. It uses only normal operating-system capabilities required to display and preserve local app state. A future release that materially changes its permissions or data practices will require an updated disclosure and Policy.

Local records are stored inside the app's private storage area using Android platform storage. Processing occurs on the device to display records, calculate local review status, preserve preferences, and restore the last-used view. Archive Lantern does not create a public profile or make local entries searchable by other users. Device-level security still depends on your operating system, screen lock, backup settings, administrator settings, and physical control of the device.

The app does not transmit, sell, rent, license, disclose, or share local app records with MPL HOLDINGS LIMITED, advertisers, data brokers, analytics providers, or other users. An optional export begins only after you choose it and uses Android's system document interface. You select the destination and control any later sharing; the app does not automatically upload the file and the publisher does not receive it. Information may also leave the app through actions outside its control, such as screenshots, screen recording, copying text, malware, administrator access, or another person accessing an unlocked device.

Local information remains on your device until you edit it, use the in-app Reset workspace control, clear the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app. Clearing storage or uninstalling normally removes the app's local data from the active device. Android backup and device transfer are disabled for this release. Because MPL HOLDINGS LIMITED does not receive these records, it cannot retrieve, restore, correct, or delete them remotely. Exported files remain wherever you chose to save them until you delete them separately.

Archive Lantern reduces exposure by operating offline, avoiding accounts, requesting no dangerous permissions, disabling app backup, and keeping working records in private app storage. No software or device is completely secure. Use a current Android version, a strong device lock, appropriate controls for exported files, and organisational procedures suitable for the sensitivity of your collection. Do not rely on the app as the only copy of an authoritative institutional record.

Archive Lantern is intended for adult collection custodians, owners, staff, and volunteers and is not directed to children. The app does not knowingly collect information from children because it sends no user information to the publisher. Adults should not use free-text fields to record unnecessary personal information about a child or young person. If such information is entered locally, the device user controls and can delete it.

The app may be used to organise working notes about objects, but it cannot determine ownership, authenticity, provenance, cultural authority, confidentiality, copyright, privacy, access rights, export status, insurance value, or lawful disclosure. Before recording or sharing sensitive information, follow the policies, agreements, community protocols, legal advice, and access controls applicable to the collection. Use cautious access settings and minimise sensitive details.

Archive Lantern provides general educational prompts for observation, documentation, storage review, and movement planning. It does not provide conservation treatment, hazardous-material handling, mould remediation, pest control, emergency response, structural lifting, legal, insurance, valuation, medical, or financial advice. Stop and seek an appropriately qualified professional when an object is unstable, contaminated, hazardous, actively deteriorating, culturally sensitive, legally restricted, or beyond your training.

The Source Shelf identifies independent institutional resources for further reading. Archive Lantern is not affiliated with or endorsed by those institutions. A source opens only after your deliberate action through an external browser or compatible app. That external service may process information such as your IP address and device details under its own privacy policy; Archive Lantern and MPL HOLDINGS LIMITED do not receive that browsing information through the app.

Depending on where you live, privacy law may provide rights concerning personal information. MPL HOLDINGS LIMITED does not hold the records you create inside the Android app, so local access, correction, portability, and deletion must be exercised through the app or device controls. If you contact the publisher outside the app, information in that communication is handled only to respond, maintain necessary correspondence, meet legal obligations, or protect legitimate rights. Do not send collection records or sensitive material unless specifically necessary.

This Policy may be updated when the app's features, legal requirements, or privacy practices change. The effective date and version will be revised, and a material change will be reflected in the in-app Privacy Centre and public policy page before or with the relevant release. Continued use after an update means the current Policy applies to subsequent use; it does not authorise undisclosed collection of earlier local records.
